I recently listened to a podcast that got me thinking deeply about the sparkle in our lives. The host shared a captivating story about Julia Roberts and posed an intriguing question: “Is there pixie dust sprinkled on your life?” The theme was about reigniting excitement and finding simple ways to add a little sparkle to our everyday moments.

This got me reflecting on my own sparkly moments. The podcast also delved into the concept of “firsts”—the first day of vacation, the first time wearing a new dress, the beginnings of relationships. These initial experiences are filled with excitement, but over time, the sparkle can dull a bit. Not because they become less special, but because they become familiar.

Many people think my life is constantly sparkling—and in many ways, it is. I LOVE what I do for a living. I get to spend time with incredibly inspirational people, show women and girls how to feel confident, and host magical events. Yet, I have noticed that my own sparkle has dimmed a little. My passion runs deep, but I’ve realized that I haven’t given myself enough new experiences to keep that sparkle alive.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have a spark, but it’s been more of a short fuse lately. So, I’ve decided to be proactive about experiencing my own “firsts” again. I need time to explore, to be in nature, to breathe fresh air, and to find calm. That’s what truly lights me up.

Recently, I was interviewed for a magazine cover story about my favorite memory with my love. When I asked my guy, we both simultaneously said the welcome drink on our vacation to the Cayman Islands in December 2019. We had taken a red-eye flight with a long layover and hadn’t slept in close to 36 hours. When we landed, our private open-air bus came to fetch us, and the driver handed us the most exquisite, delicious, refreshing, sparkly drink we had ever experienced. It was a Caybrew, basically a Coors Light—not our usual choice, but in that moment, it was pure magic. It was happiness in a can and a shot of sparkle for the soul. So, when was your last sparkly moment? Have you changed your scenery lately? Have you sought out adventure? Science has shown that people experience the highest feelings of excitement the day before a vacation. The next greatest emotion is felt once you’re on vacation, followed by a decline. They recommend that long weekends are more beneficial to your happiness sparkle than long trips. The more you plan getaways, the more you experience those exciting “firsts.”

This makes perfect sense to me, and I’m excited to embark on many adventures—after all, I’m doing it for science!
